MEET JACKIE LADANGA

In what year did you start CrossFit?
I started CrossFit in 2008 of October.

Why did you start CrossFit?
I was introduced to CrossFit by one of my coworkers, when it was still a foreign concept to the fitness world. She knew that I was going to a regular gym, trying to get back in shape post college, and thought this would be a great way for us to bond with all of our coworkers at our job while trying to achieve our fitness goals. From then on, it just became a part of my regimen for a healthier lifestyle.

How many days per week do you CrossFit and what is your normal class time?
I go about 3-4 days per week. Typically afternoons at 4:30 and Sundays' Barbell Class , and on occasion the 9:00 class afterwards.

What is your favorite movement?
All barbell lifts, especially technical ones like the Clean & Jerk and Snatches that require me to get under the bar quickly and hit all points in a single movement.

What movement do you want to conquer?
All gymnastics skills (ring/bar muscle ups, handstand walks, ring dips, butterfly pull-ups, etc.). All my skills are a continuous work in progress.

What kind of music do you like to listen to when you work out?
Any music that has a fast beat or tempo.

What kind of changes have you noticed since joining Straight Flush?
I have become mentally and physically stronger and more balanced. I am technical when it comes to my form during lifts, strategic when approaching workouts, and wiser to find the balance between weightlifting and cardio. My mantra given to me from my dad is P.H.D (Patience, Hard work, & Determination). This has carried me through my years with CrossFit.

What do you do for a living?
I am a Surgical/OR (Operating Room) Nurse

What do you like to do when you’re not working out at Straight Flush?
Enjoying the company of family and friends through good food, traveling, and conversation.

What do you love most about the Straight Flush community?
The positivity and welcoming atmosphere of this community. It is diverse with people from all walks of life. We all share in each other's successes and uplift every members' spirit by helping them overcome obstacles through experiences, advices, and support. It is one big "Family".
